New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) The services of Delhi Metro are set to commence at 4:00 a.m. on February 5 and 8 to aid election duty personnel during the Assembly elections and the subsequent vote counting. This announcement was made by Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

On Assembly Election Day, February 5, and the vote counting day on February 8, all Delhi Metro train services will initiate from their terminal stations at 4:00 a.m.. The services will maintain a frequency of 30 minutes until 6:00 a.m., after which regular Metro services will resume for the remainder of the day.

Moreover, to assist polling officials and staff returning late following their election duties, the last Metro services on all lines will be extended during the night of February 5 and 6.

In addition, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor has declared February 5 as a public holiday for all government offices, local bodies, public sector undertakings, and autonomous organizations within the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. This directive was issued under the orders of the Lieutenant Governor.

The voting process to elect a new 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with results being announced on February 8. The outgoing assembly comprises AAP with 62 seats and BJP holding eight seats.

As per data from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), there are 1.56 crore voters eligible to vote across 13,766 polling stations. Of the total voters, 83.76 lakh are men, 72.36 lakh are women, and 1,267 are third-gender voters.

In this election, 699 candidates are contesting, compared to 672 in the 2020 elections.
