New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) The weather in Delhi-NCR experienced a significant shift on Monday as dark clouds rolled in, resulting in showers and brisk winds throughout the area. This brought welcome relief from the oppressive heat and humidity.
By the afternoon, heavy rains hit several regions, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and parts of Delhi, causing a noticeable temperature drop.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the maximum temperature was recorded several degrees below the seasonal average.
Residents noted an unusual chill for September as cool breezes swept through the area.
The IMD had previously issued a yellow alert for September 1, warning residents of anticipated rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds during the afternoon and evening. The warnings rang true, with heavy rain darkening the skies in broad daylight, prompting commuters to turn on their headlights.
While the rain offered a break from the heat, it also caused significant disruption. Reports of waterlogging emerged from various locations in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and several areas of Delhi, leading to severe traffic jams.
Major routes experienced long traffic delays, with vehicle movement slowing to a crawl in multiple areas. Commuters faced challenges with flooded streets, especially in underpasses and low-lying areas.
Despite these challenges, many residents welcomed the rain, enjoying the sudden coolness and relief from the heat.
“It feels like the monsoon is back in full force. This change is truly refreshing,” remarked one Noida resident.
Looking forward, the IMD forecasts that the pleasant weather will persist over the coming week, with light to moderate rain expected intermittently.
The skies are predicted to remain cloudy on September 2, although no alert has been issued for that day. However, another round of rain along with thunder and lightning is anticipated on September 3.
Meteorologist Naresh Kumar provided an update on the ongoing rainfall, stating, "An orange alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. Alerts are also active for Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Delhi and NCR are expected to experience heavy rainfall for 1-2 days before conditions return to normal."
