New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) The Delhi Police have initiated a two-day mock exercise in New Delhi, commencing on Thursday, to evaluate the anti-terror readiness of the national capital.
This mock drill will engage various agencies, including the National Security Guard (NSG), Special Cell, Fire Department, Indian Army Ghatak Brigade, SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) commandos, along with other key stakeholders, as revealed by sources to IANS under anonymity.
It is reported that these anti-terror mock drills will take place at over 10 locations throughout the capital. As of this report, drills were being conducted at Claridge Hotel in Lutyens Delhi, Hindu College (North Campus, Delhi University), and Venkateshwar International School in Dwarka.
Reliable sources indicate that at Hindu College and Venkateshwar School, the drills simulated a terrorist attack followed by a response from fire services. Similarly, the exercise at Claridges Hotel included a bomb blast simulation, with NSG commandos descending onto the terrace via helicopters.
Other sites slated for mock drills include Indira Gandhi International Airport, AIIMS, and several more.
These drills are strategically scheduled ahead of the August 15 (Independence Day) festivities.
Significantly, these exercises are conducted in the context of Operation Sindoor. The primary goal is to assess emergency response capabilities, facilitate seamless coordination among agencies, and ensure operational efficiency.
A senior officer advised the public to cooperate and refrain from succumbing to rumors or misunderstandings.
The entire operation will be under the close scrutiny of senior officials to guarantee its efficacy and derive essential insights.
The last series of mock drills occurred in May across more than 200 locations to evaluate emergency preparedness, shortly after the military tensions between India and Pakistan.
These exercises followed Operation Sindoor, executed by the Indian armed forces in the early hours of May 6-7, in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack on April 22, where Pakistan-sponsored terrorists claimed the lives of 25 innocent tourists and one local pony operator.
