Amaravati, July 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, emphasized on Thursday the necessity for the Telugu states to share river water in a harmonious manner.
Following a significant meeting with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Paatil in Delhi, Naidu remarked that if the Telugu states effectively utilize the Godavari water that currently flows into the sea, the drought conditions in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana could be eradicated.
The meeting resolved to form a committee consisting of officials and engineers to address river water challenges, including the contentious Godavari-Banakacherla link project proposed by Andhra Pradesh.
Telangana has expressed concerns over the project and has urged the Centre not to approve it.
Naidu conveyed that the discussions surrounding water issues were constructive. He stated, "There’s no need for conflict—we should function on a give-and-take basis," while addressing beneficiaries after inaugurating water release under Handri-Neeva Phase-1 from the Mallelapadu Pumping Station in Nandyal district of Rayalaseema.
"We’ve requested Telangana to utilize Godavari waters and collaborate on river-linking. If both states capitalize on the water flowing into the sea, droughts in Seema and Telangana can become history," he asserted.
Reflecting on his extensive experience, Naidu stated, "I served as Chief Minister for nine and a half years in united Andhra and ten years as Opposition Leader. After bifurcation, I’ve guided the new Andhra as CM. My commitment lies with the people, and I will not allow minor hurdles to impede our progress toward development."
In discussing other decisions from the chief ministers' meeting, Naidu announced the establishment of the Godavari River Management Board in Hyderabad and the Krishna River Management Board in Vijayawada. He also mentioned that Andhra Pradesh would be financing the Srisailam plunge pool works.
The Chief Minister expressed that delivering water to Rayalaseema brings him immense joy, marking an unforgettable chapter in his life.
He indicated that this milestone is a significant step in the ongoing journey of ensuring ample water supply to Seema, emphasizing that water alone can transform the region's destiny.
Naidu revealed that Phase-2 of Handri-Neeva will be completed shortly, which will provide water to reservoirs in Satya Sai and Annamayya districts.
Once Handri-Neeva Phase-2 is finalized, irrigation water will reach six lakh acres.
With the expansion of Handri-Neeva, an additional 17 TMC of water will be transferred within four months, enhancing groundwater levels and revolutionizing agriculture.
He affirmed that the NDA government is dedicated to making Rayalaseema the pride of Andhra Pradesh. "For some, Seema signifies politics and violence. For me, Seema represents water, progress, and the future of the people. We will execute the Rayalaseema Declaration made during our padayatra. One day, Seema will surpass Konaseema in per capita income through horticulture and industry," he concluded.
