New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has successfully apprehended four individuals linked to an interstate mobile phone theft ring, recovering a total of 40 high-end smartphones, with several devices taken during a concert held on December 7 at IGI Stadium, officials reported on Thursday.
A specialized team from the Eastern Range-I of the Crime Branch, under the leadership of Inspector Ashish Sharma and oversight by ACP Sunil Srivastav, monitored the suspects for nearly 48 hours before intercepting them near the Yamuna Vihar Metro Station on December 9.
The police revealed that the suspects frequently changed locations to avoid detection, compelling the team to conduct ongoing technical surveillance.
The individuals have been identified as Salman (35), Imran (28), Shahrukh (32), and Wasim (25), all of whom reside in Ghaziabad.
Among the recovered devices were eight Apple iPhones — including the iPhone 17 Pro Max and models from the iPhone 16 series — as well as seven premium Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Fold 6.
The additional smartphones included brands like OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo, Redmi, POCO, and Motorola.
Many of the retrieved phones have been linked to FIRs filed at the Prashant Vihar, Shahbad Dairy, and IP Estate police stations.
According to police, the gang targeted crowded venues like concerts, metro stations, bus stops, bars, marketplaces, and railway stations.
During questioning, the suspected leader, Salman, admitted that they aimed for events attended by young individuals with expensive phones. Authorities noted that this group had been active across Delhi-NCR for several months.
“The stolen phones were rapidly transported to Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), where the gang had established connections in the grey market. These high-end devices were sold at significantly reduced prices within hours of theft, complicating recovery efforts,” the police stated in their press release.
“Salman confessed that the gang had been continuously operating in Delhi-NCR for several months, committing numerous thefts that generated substantial profits with minimal risk of capture until their recent arrest,” it added.
The four suspects have been charged under Sections 35(1)(E) and 106 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
“This operation highlights the commitment of the Delhi Police Crime Branch to combat organized crime and apprehend serious offenders. Efforts are ongoing to locate the associates of the arrested individuals and to investigate further cases linked to them,” stated DCP Vikram Singh.
