The arrests were made by teams from the North-West District Narcotics Wing and Shalimar Bagh Police Station after executing two distinct operations based on specific intelligence, as detailed in an official press release from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police on Sunday.
As per the release, “The Narcotics NWD & PS Shalimar Bagh teams have taken into custody two drug peddlers, identified as Ansuddin Ali, son of Amjad Ali, aged 45, residing in G Block, Jahangir Puri, Delhi, and Asha, wife of Sonu Malik, aged 22, from Dharna Camp, Haiderpur Village, Delhi, recovering 1.17583 kg of ganja & 54 quarters from them.”
The police further disclosed that both individuals had been involved in drug peddling for several years, supplying illegal substances to various clients as requested. “They turned to crime for quick financial gain,” the release noted, adding that the duo were “habitual and active criminals,” previously engaged in five cases under the NDPS Act and the Excise Act.
The first arrest occurred on July 4, when a team, acting on separate intelligence, apprehended a woman named Asha near Dharna Camp, Haiderpur. She was found in possession of 1.156 kg of ganja. A case was subsequently filed at PS Shalimar Bagh under the NDPS Act.
The second arrest was executed on July 5, when Narcotics Wing officers, acting on a tip-off, detained Ansuddin Ali near a garbage dump in front of MCD Flats, Jahangir Puri. A search led to the recovery of 19.83 grams of ganja and 54 quarters. A case under pertinent sections of the NDPS and Excise Acts was registered at the Jahangir Puri police station.
During interrogation, both suspects reportedly admitted to their involvement in the illegal trade for several years. “They disclosed that they were scouting the area for potential customers… she used to gather ganja and alcohol from various locations across Delhi and supplied it to clients on demand,” the police stated.
