New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, has officially established the Business Advisory Committee and the Committee on Private Members’ Bills & Resolutions for the 2024-2025 term, signaling a return to legislative practices that were halted under the former AAP government.
These committees are set to play a vital role in facilitating the seamless operation of legislative activities and discussions, motivating legislators to propose ideas and introduce resolutions and bills aimed at better serving the public, according to an official statement.
The Business Advisory Committee, led by the Speaker, is tasked with outlining the legislative agenda and enhancing discussions within the Assembly. Its members include: Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Aahir Deepak Chaudhary, Jitender Mahajan, Om Prakash Sharma, Raj Kumar Chauhan, Som Dutt, Surendra Kumar, and Surya Prakash Khatri.
The Committee on Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions, which evaluates and promotes discussions on bills and resolutions put forth by private members, will also be chaired by the Speaker. Members of this committee will consist of: Abhay Verma, Amanatullah Khan, Anil Kumar Sharma, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Poonam Sharma, Prem Chauhan, Sanjay Goyal, and Shyam Sharma.
The establishment of these committees emphasizes the Assembly's dedication to maintaining democratic values and ensuring effective legislative processes, stated the Speaker's office.
On Tuesday, Speaker Gupta highlighted the reintroduction of Question Hour during the Budget session, aimed at making legislative operations paper-free and transforming the historic legislature into a national monument as his primary objectives.
During his first media briefing, Speaker Gupta expressed his discontent over the disruptive actions that interrupted Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena’s address to the Assembly, which led to the suspension of Opposition members.
“The LG’s address is a significant event, and he was fulfilling his constitutional obligations. The Rules of Procedure prohibit such disturbances during the LG Address. Subsequently, the members were suspended by the House for three sittings due to their disruption of the LG’s address,” he remarked.
