New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) The Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, Professor Yogesh Singh, announced on Tuesday that the construction of the new building for Veer Savarkar College, named after the renowned Hindutva ideologue, is set to begin next year. He firmly rejected the notion of any influence from the 'Right-wing' or other ideologies on the prestigious Central educational institution.

“I am unclear about what people refer to as Rightist ideology. Our primary focus is to cultivate students who prioritize the nation, and this should be the goal of every university,” stated Professor Yogesh Singh, aged 59, who holds the position as the 23rd Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi.

“In times of national crisis, it is imperative that citizens contribute in their own capacity. Regardless of one’s interpretation of love for the country, I believe it is essential to address this, and we are certainly dedicated to doing so,” he conveyed during the interaction with IANS.

Encouraging other institutions to foster a sense of patriotism among students, the DU VC emphasized, “We must ensure that each student, upon graduating, feels a sense of responsibility towards the nation, as this country belongs to us all, and we must care for it.”

Having previously served as the VC of Delhi Technological University, Singh contested claims that students and staff affiliated with Right-wing ideologies or the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were being integrated into the University.

“I do not concur with such baseless accusations,” remarked the VC, adding, “There is a structured selection process that includes three stages: screening, interviews, and assessments of communication, writing, and soft skills, followed by an interview.”

“Those who make these allegations are either misinformed or lack the understanding required to grasp such a procedure,” he cautioned, advising self-proclaimed experts to refrain from disparaging the quality measures at DU.

In response to inquiries about competition with another prominent city-based Central university, Jawaharlal Nehru University, the Delhi University VC praised JNU’s achievements in global rankings and dismissed claims that DU aimed to emulate JNU.

“That is simply not the case. JNU possesses its unique attributes, while DU holds its distinct strengths,” he remarked.

Regarding the inauguration of the new Veer Savarkar College building, he stated, “Construction has commenced for Veer Savarkar College, and I am confident it will be fully operational next year. This college could even launch within two to three months, but it will definitely commence next year.”

The Veer Savarkar College at Delhi University is being established in the Najafgarh area of West Delhi with an estimated budget of Rs 140 crore. The university has announced plans to start admissions for this session, marking a significant expansion after decades.
