BJP Leveraging Savarkar's Legacy to Ignite Controversy and Secure Votes Ahead of Delhi Elections: Pramod Tiwari

New Delhi, Jan 3 (NationPress) Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Friday condemned the BJP-led administration for what he termed an effort to create controversy in the lead-up to the imminent Delhi Assembly elections.

Tiwari’s comments were triggered by the unveiling of several initiatives by Prime Minister Modi, including the Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh and the Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar.

In an interview with IANS, Tiwari expressed his support for the new college established within Delhi University (DU), noting that the last college inaugurated at DU was the Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences back in 1995, named after a 12th-century mathematician and supported by the Delhi government.

However, Tiwari raised questions about the BJP's choice of name for the institution, implying that the government was attempting to provoke political strife for electoral purposes.

"I do welcome the inauguration of Veer Savarkar College. But, I don’t understand why PM Modi and the BJP must ignite controversy over nearly every subject," Tiwari remarked.

"Savarkar never contributed in regions like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. If the Modi government wished to honor a freedom fighter, they could have selected someone who made significant contributions in these areas, or even the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who devoted his life to the nation," he continued.

Tiwari further accused the BJP of lacking historical figures of their own, suggesting that the party was invoking Savarkar’s legacy to stir controversy and garner votes ahead of the election.

"The fundamental issue with the BJP is their absence of freedom fighters within the party. As elections approach, PM Modi seems intent on inciting controversy to secure votes in the Delhi Assembly elections," he added.

Tiwari also commented on PM Modi’s visit to the newly-built Swabhiman Apartments, a part of the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project in Ashok Vihar, where he interacted with residents of Jhuggi Jhopri clusters. According to Tiwari, the BJP's focus was less on development and more on swaying voters through symbolic gestures.

"The BJP’s primary goal appears to be the destruction of homes, similar to their actions in states like Uttar Pradesh. It’s all about manipulating voter sentiment," he stated.

Tiwari also addressed the ongoing protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants in Bihar, highlighting how Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor declared a fast in support of the students. Tiwari asserted that Kishor’s political ambitions were now in jeopardy.

"Prashant Kishor is regretting his choices. He aimed to be a hero, but he has turned into a villain. Regardless of their actions, the Congress stands with the protesting students, and we fully endorse their demands," Tiwari concluded.

The political discourse surrounding these inaugurations is expected to persist as the Delhi Assembly elections approach, with the BJP, AAP, and Congress gearing up for a fierce competition.
