New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma, in response to the Delhi election outcomes, stated on Saturday that the citizens of the national capital have dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party's “deceitful politics”.

In an interview with IANS, Sharma expressed gratitude to the people of Delhi for their support for the BJP. “This time, the residents have embraced PM Modi’s leadership and his policies while turning away from the politics of deceit,” she noted.

Commenting on the loss faced by prominent AAP leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, the BJP MP remarked, “You can deceive the public once or twice but not repeatedly. All these so-called leaders have been misleading them, and the public has realized they were being misled. This time, they were determined to elect BJP to power. Regardless of whether in minority or slum areas, citizens everywhere sought development. This is the politics of development. The politics of deceit will not prevail.”

According to the trends from the Delhi election results three hours into the vote counting, the BJP was leading with 48 out of 70 seats while the AAP was ahead in 22. The Congress appeared set for another disappointing performance.

Meanwhile, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia lost in the New Delhi and Jangpura Assembly constituencies, respectively.

In the final count, Sisodia was trailing by 572 votes while Parvesh Verma’s winning margin over Kejriwal was almost equivalent to the nearly 3,000 votes acquired by Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Atishi triumphed in the Kalkaji seat, defeating the BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri.

Exit polls, which have been inaccurate in recent elections, turned out to be correct for Delhi this time. Most had indicated a BJP advantage over the AAP, which has governed Delhi since 2015.
