Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) In an initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and urban mobility, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh revealed on Saturday the plans for constructing eight Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) at locations in Delhi that are notorious for accidents.
The Minister emphasized that these projects are a testament to the government's dedication to fostering safer roadways through practical and community-focused infrastructure.
The sanctioned FOBs will be located at Madhuban Chowk (Vikas Marg–Patparganj Road); Welcome-cut, GT Road; Shahbad Dairy, Badli–Bawana Road; Ber Sarai Market, Vedant Deshika Marg; Katwaria Sarai, near LBS Sanskriti Vidyapeeth; Okhla Sabzi Mandi, Captain Gaur Marg; Janakpuri, near Block A-2, Jeevan Park bus stand and Lal Singh Chowk, near Mata Chanan Devi Hospital.
This initiative is part of the Delhi government’s strategic infrastructure plan aimed at reducing road accidents, improving traffic flow, and providing safe and organized crossing points for the millions who commute daily, according to Parvesh Sahib Singh.
He noted that these locations were chosen based on traffic studies and extensive on-the-ground evaluations, considering high pedestrian traffic, accident risks, and the convenience of daily commuters.
“The growth of Delhi necessitates innovative solutions. No one should endanger their life while crossing a road. These Foot Over Bridges will be constructed exactly where safety is a paramount concern, ensuring a smoother traffic flow and secure passage for pedestrians,” stated the Minister.
Stressing the need for prompt execution, he mentioned that specific timelines have been established to avoid delays.
“We are moving beyond the culture of slow infrastructure development. Construction is set to commence by February, with projects aimed for timely completion. Accountability and speed are now essential,” he added.
The Minister also called for close cooperation among all agencies involved to ensure progress on site readiness, utility relocation, and approvals, thus preventing any hindrances in the workflow.
He assured that the PWD will diligently supervise the ongoing pedestrian infrastructure projects to maintain progress across the city, implementing strict quality control and timeline assessments.
Parvesh Sahib Singh emphasized that this comprehensive pedestrian initiative reflects the Delhi government’s commitment to developing safer, smarter, and more accessible urban infrastructure, prioritizing the safety and convenience of its citizens in developmental planning.
