Agartala, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Tripura Police apprehended three individuals, including two women, from Assam on Thursday in relation to the assault on a delivery boy, who subsequently took his own life.
Authorities stated that the victim was subjected to public humiliation and violence by the detained suspects, along with two accomplices, culminating in the tragic event on December 14.
"With support from Assam Police, we captured the three suspects in the Sribhumi (formerly Karimganj) district of southern Assam on Thursday. They will soon be presented in a Dharmanagar court," a police spokesperson informed the press.
Investigators are also on the lookout for two additional suspects linked to the incident. The apprehended individuals have been named as Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee, and Sourav Bhattacharjee. Notably, Sangita Bhattacharjee is employed as a schoolteacher.
The FIR filed by the family of the victim identified the absconding suspects as Meghadeep Bhattacharjee and Piu Dhar.
Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also oversees the home department, previously remarked on social media, "An exhaustive investigation is in progress regarding the case of delivery boy Prasenjit Sarkar from Dharmanagar, North Tripura. The government is committed to ensuring prompt justice."
The police confirmed that the deceased, Prasenjit Sarkar (23), resided in Dharmanagar in the North Tripura district and worked as a delivery boy for a private courier firm.
As per allegations from Sarkar’s family, he was violently assaulted by three women and two men at his workplace on December 14, following a dispute over a parcel delivery.
The assailants reportedly recorded the attack and disseminated the footage on social media, resulting in severe public humiliation and psychological distress for Sarkar.
Relatives and local community members stated that the public assault and the viral video severely impacted Sarkar’s dignity and mental health.
Overwhelmed by the humiliation, the young man, who was the sole breadwinner for his family, allegedly ended his life on December 14, leaving behind a mourning mother and a financially struggling family.
This incident has sparked widespread protests throughout Tripura, with various political entities and organizations demanding justice for Sarkar and stringent penalties for those responsible.
