Trinamool MP Urges Caution: Prevent Delivery Boys from Entering Homes with Girls Alone

Kolkata, Dec 19 (NationPress) Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time Trinamool Congress MP from the Serampore constituency in Hooghly district of West Bengal, addressed the public on Thursday, advising against allowing delivery personnel inside homes when girls are by themselves.

He released a statement on Thursday afternoon explaining the necessity of this warning, citing a recent event in the Serampore locality, where a delivery worker unlawfully entered a residence and attempted to assault a young girl who was alone.

“Fortunately, the Serampore Police acted promptly, identified the suspect, and detained him as I had urged. Please remain alert and take every necessary step to safeguard your children,” Banerjee’s statement conveyed.

According to sources from the state police, in the incident Banerjee referenced, the delivery worker entered the house while the girl was home alone to deliver an order and requested the OTP needed for the transaction.

While the girl was checking her email on her computer for the OTP, the delivery worker attempted to sexually assault her. He fled after being strongly resisted, but not before threatening the girl with severe repercussions if she reported the incident.

The girl promptly alerted her mother via phone. Initially, a formal complaint was filed with the online delivery service linked to the delivery worker, and subsequently, the girl's parents lodged a report with the local police.

This incident was brought to the attention of the Lok Sabha member, who expressed his alarm over the situation. The accused delivery worker was apprehended shortly thereafter.

West Bengal has been in the news for several alarming reports of violence, including rape and murder, with many of the victims being minors.

One particularly notorious case involved the horrific rape and murder of a junior doctor from R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata this past August.
