Demand to Cease Violence Against Hindus in Bangladesh and Disrespect towards the Indian Flag: Tripura Muslim Group

Agartala, Dec 5 (NationPress) The Tripura Gousia Samiti, a Muslim socio-religious group in the northeastern state, has urged for an immediate cessation of violence against Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh, while also condemning the disrespect shown to the Indian national flag.

A nine-member delegation from the Tripura Gousia Samiti visited the Additional District Magistrate of West Tripura district on Thursday and submitted a memorandum directed to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Agartala, calling for an end to the oppression faced by Hindus and other minorities in the neighboring nation.

After the memorandum was submitted, the Samiti's President Abdul Barik expressed concern over the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh that has persisted for several months.

“Members of the Sanatan Hindu Dharma and other minorities are facing violence and attacks in Bangladesh. Their properties are being set ablaze, vandalized, and destroyed. Such acts are intolerable,” Barik stated to the media.

Firmly denouncing the disrespect shown towards the Indian national flag, the Samiti noted in their memorandum that as Indians, they were profoundly saddened by the blatant disregard for the Indian tricolour observed through various social media platforms from Bangladesh.

“We demand an immediate halt to these violent acts and appropriate punishment for those responsible,” the organization insisted, calling for the protection of the property belonging to the Hindu community and other minorities.

In addition to this, the Tripura Police has heightened security around the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission (AHC) office in Agartala and is maintaining vigilance concerning protests against the violence inflicted upon Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

Since Tuesday, the Bangladesh AHC has suspended all visa and consular services indefinitely, citing security concerns.

The head of the mission at the Bangladesh AHC, Aal Amin, issued a notice stating: “Given the current security situation, all visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Agartala will remain suspended until further notice. This is effective immediately.”

This decision from the Bangladesh AHC follows a security breach at the mission during a protest organized by a group condemning the violence against Hindus and other minorities in the region.

The West Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar K, has taken action by suspending three Sub-Inspectors — Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain — while also withdrawing Kanti Nath Ghosh, an Assistant Commandant (equivalent to a DSP), from his duties due to negligence during the protests that occurred on December 2.

During the protest, a delegation from the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti approached the AHC officials, delivering a memorandum that urged the caretaker government of Bangladesh to stop the atrocities against the Hindu community and ensure their safety and property.

At that time, some protesters forcefully entered the AHC premises and reportedly desecrated the Bangladesh national flag, prompting police to swiftly remove the demonstrators.

Authorities arrested seven individuals in connection with the security breach at the Bangladesh AHC office.

The state government has also mandated an inquiry into the incident from Monday, with the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Southern Range assigned to oversee the investigation.
