Protests Lead to Security Breach at Bangladesh Mission in Agartala; Condemnation from CM Manik Saha

Agartala, Dec 2 (NationPress) On Monday night, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his disapproval of the security breach at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission (AHC) office in Agartala, which occurred amidst protests against the oppression faced by Hindus in the neighboring nation.

In his social media remarks, the Chief Minister noted that several individuals assembled at the base of the Gandhi statue in Agartala to peacefully protest against the significant violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. However, a group of young individuals unexpectedly attempted to breach the AHC office. “I condemn this incident. Peaceful protests can continue, but such actions are completely unacceptable,” Saha commented.

A senior official from the Tripura police indicated that security measures at the Bangladesh AHC office in Agartala had been significantly enhanced due to the ongoing protests against the persecution of the Hindu minority in the adjacent country.

The official mentioned that the Director General of Police (Intelligence), Anurag, along with the Deputy Inspector General (Intelligence and Southern Range), Krishnendu Chakraborty, visited the AHC office on Monday afternoon to confer with its representatives.

According to the official, both the DG (Intelligence) and the DIG (Intelligence) guaranteed the AHC officials that comprehensive security measures would be implemented to protect the mission.

Additionally, the number of Tripura Police personnel has been increased in and around the AHC office, located on the outskirts of Agartala.

Previously, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement in New Delhi indicating that security had been bolstered for the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi and its Deputy and Assistant High Commissions across the nation, in response to the escalating protests against the injustices faced by the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Following a demonstration near the AHC office earlier that day, the MEA stressed that diplomatic missions must not be subjected to any form of aggression.

"The earlier incident involving the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala is profoundly regrettable. Diplomatic and consular properties must never be targeted under any circumstances. The government is taking measures to enhance security arrangements for the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi and its Deputy/Assistant High Commissions across the country," stated the MEA.

On Monday, a large group of activists gathered outside the AHC office to present a memorandum urging the interim government in Dhaka to safeguard the lives and properties of Hindus in Bangladesh.

Members of the 'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' also delivered a memorandum to the AHC, calling on the caretaker government to cease the atrocities against the Hindu community and ensure their safety.

'Hindu Sangharsh Samiti' leader Sankar Roy remarked that assaults on the lives and properties of Hindus in Bangladesh have become a routine occurrence, while security forces remain passive observers.
