Agartala, Dec 19 (NationPress) The Indian administration is keenly observing the unfolding circumstances in Bangladesh and is thoroughly equipped to address any potential challenges, remarked Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday.
The Chief Minister noted that following the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a multitude of unsettling and destructive events have transpired in the neighboring nation.
In response to the current unrest, CM Saha stated that the Tripura government has been consistently forwarding detailed reports to the Centre regarding developments stemming from the turmoil across the border.
“Notorious terrorists, criminals, and individuals implicated in various offenses have been released from Bangladeshi prisons,” CM Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, conveyed to the media during a government event.
Emphasizing that India and its armed forces are perpetually ready to manage any situation, the Chief Minister confirmed that the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is fully cognizant of the developments in Bangladesh and is maintaining vigilant oversight on the situation.
“Our drone surveillance technologies have seen remarkable advancements. The S-400 mobile long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system has already exhibited its effectiveness,” CM Saha mentioned, adding that security protocols and all essential measures along the border are strong and well-equipped.
He further stated that paramilitary forces have ramped up vigilance and intensified border domination along the International Border since violence erupted in Bangladesh in June–July last year, particularly after the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
Tripura, which shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh and is flanked by the neighboring country on three sides, remains extremely sensitive and susceptible to cross-border developments.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that after Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson for the radical group Inqilab Mancha, succumbed to bullet injuries on December 18, a series of violent incidents have been reported from various cities in Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka. Hadi was receiving treatment at a hospital in Singapore.
Earlier, on December 17, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah to express New Delhi’s serious concerns regarding the deteriorating security conditions in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has experienced a significant surge in violence and a decline in law and order under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
