Agartala, May 10 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha stated on Saturday that he has urged both Central and state forces to collaborate effectively in addressing the ongoing challenges posed by the India-Pakistan tensions.
The Chief Minister emphasized during a meeting with senior security officials that it is crucial for security personnel in the state to maintain close cooperation to manage border-related issues and developments amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
“We are operating under the directives of the Central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, along with other leaders, are actively involved in addressing the current situation,” remarked Saha, who also oversees the Home portfolio, during a press conference.
He reassured the public that the security and civil administrations are prepared to handle any eventualities in Tripura.
“The situation across Tripura is entirely stable and there is no reason for alarm,” the Chief Minister added.
An official from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) revealed that Saha convened a high-level meeting on Friday with senior security, intelligence, and civil officials to discuss enhancing surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted over an hour, included representatives from the Border Security Force, Assam Rifles, Tripura Police, and various intelligence agencies, as disclosed by the official to IANS.
Tripura shares an 856 km border with Bangladesh and is flanked by the neighboring country on three sides.
A spokesperson for the BSF reported that border guarding troops have increased their vigilance and heightened their operations along the International Border since the outbreak of violence in Bangladesh, particularly following the fall of the previous Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
“We have intensified our vigilance and security measures after the Pahalgam terror attack and in light of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan,” the spokesperson stated, adding that senior BSF officials frequently patrol the border areas to monitor the situation continuously.
