Demonstration by Manipur Civil Society Groups in Delhi Urges PM for Peace Restoration

New Delhi/Imphal, Dec 23 (NationPress) On Monday, several civil society organizations from Manipur conducted protests in New Delhi, appealing for the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore peace and normalcy in the state plagued by ethnic conflicts.
The protestors asserted that the inaction and silence from the Central government have only worsened the situation in Manipur, complicating the ethnic crisis further.
Demonstrators, unified under the banner of "Peace and Mutual Coexistence", called for the Prime Minister to tackle the ethnic divisions and kickstart a peace process without delay.
"For the past 19 months, Manipur has been in turmoil, and the Central government's silence has exacerbated the situation, prolonging the suffering of the state's populace. This ethnic conflict has led to the loss of approximately 260 lives and the displacement of more than 60,000 individuals, disrupting daily life and eroding trust among communities," stated one protestor.
He further mentioned that the livelihoods of the residents, along with all sectors such as education, administration, health, and other essential services, have collapsed in Manipur.
The protesters stressed the urgent need for the immediate resettlement of displaced individuals and the resumption of dialogue to restore peace and harmony. They also highlighted the geopolitical significance of Manipur, urging the Central government to safeguard the territorial and ethnic integrity of the state.
The demonstrators urged the Prime Minister to visit Manipur personally, engage with the affected communities, and exhibit leadership by formulating a roadmap for enduring peace and unity. Their appeal underscored the urgent need for decisive action to mend the wounds of this fractured state.
On December 9 and 10, the Congress-led INDIA Bloc parties from Manipur and ten Kuki-Zo tribal MLAs held separate demonstrations at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, urging the Prime Minister to visit the violence-affected state and promptly address the ongoing ethnic strife.
Reiterating calls for a separate administration or Union Territory (UT) for tribals in Manipur, the tribal MLAs appealed for the Prime Minister’s intervention to halt the violence in the northeastern state.
