Bengaluru, Jan 20 (NationPress) The BJP has launched a strong critique against the Karnataka government regarding the alleged actions of DGP K. Ramachandra Rao, who was reportedly seen engaging in romantic behavior with a woman in his office while in uniform. On Tuesday, party officials declared that such a deplorable situation involving a senior police officer has never occurred in the history of the state.

The Karnataka Police Department experienced a major setback when videos surfaced showing K. Ramachandra Rao, the stepfather of jailed actress Ranya Rao, inappropriately interacting with a woman while on duty. These videos quickly gained widespread attention on social media.

In response to the scandal, the government has suspended Rao while an investigation is underway. Additionally, he has been instructed to remain at police headquarters unless granted permission to leave by the state government.

R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition, commented on the matter, stating, "Under the Congress government, the police department has devolved into a hub of immorality and extortion. This is an unprecedented low for Karnataka."

He further pointed out that the department, which should be focused on safeguarding the community, is now drawing attention for its officers' unlawful behavior, which has become a source of public ridicule.

The serious allegations against a senior officer involved in inappropriate acts in his office, compounded by the viral videos, highlight a significant moral decline within the police force. Ashoka emphasized that this situation is indicative of a larger systemic failure, not merely the misconduct of one individual.

Despite the gravity of the allegations against an officer known to be close to the Home Minister, the lack of decisive action raises concerns about potential government complicity in this behavior, Ashoka argued.

He expressed disgust over the government’s silence while the integrity of a disciplined force is publicly tarnished.

On one hand, there’s evident chaos and moral decay within the police, while on the other, criminals operate without fear. Ashoka questioned, "If crimes can occur in plain sight of the Police Commissioner’s office, how safe are ordinary citizens?"

He mentioned that drug trafficking has even infiltrated rural areas, and despite rampant drug sales near educational institutions, the police have failed to address the issue adequately. Standard responses such as 'the investigation is ongoing' or 'I am not aware' have become all too common.

It is troubling that police from other states must intervene to combat drug trafficking in Karnataka. If this trend continues, an entire generation might fall prey to addiction, he warned.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara’s lack of action amid such misconduct reflects a troubling absence of control over the police department. Ashoka questioned whether Parameshwara has any moral authority to remain in office under these circumstances.

He added that the inability to ensure the safety of women, youth, and the elderly is a direct result of the Congress government's failures.

Former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda remarked on the evident weakening of the state home department, emphasizing that the Intelligence should have been aware of such a significant incident involving a senior officer. He questioned the moral standing of the Home Minister in light of the situation.

BJP MLC C.T. Ravi stated that this incident has brought shame upon the state police department, advocating for a thorough investigation led by a sitting woman judge. He noted that the officer claims to be a victim of AI technology manipulation, which also warrants investigation. If the allegations are confirmed, appropriate disciplinary actions should follow, as officers who engage in such behavior cannot be expected to serve justice to the public.
