Anand/Gandhinagar, April 13 (NationPress) The security measures for the forthcoming Umreth Assembly by-election in Gujarat's Anand district underwent a thorough review on Monday, led by the State Director General of Police (DGP), K. L. N. Rao, who convened a high-level meeting to evaluate the readiness for a peaceful, fair, and transparent voting process.
Accompanied by senior police officials, Rao visited Anand and conducted an exhaustive review of law enforcement arrangements, strategic deployment, and inter-agency collaboration prior to the by-election.
The primary focus of the meeting was to ensure a secure atmosphere throughout the electoral proceedings.
In-depth discussions were conducted regarding the deployment of local police units in conjunction with personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) across the constituency.
The review also addressed the collection of licensed firearms and proactive measures against anti-social elements to minimize the risk of disturbances during voting.
The DGP emphasized the rigorous enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct and instructed the district police to enhance inspections at all checkpoints.
He advocated for ongoing “area domination” initiatives in sensitive regions within the constituency to foster voter confidence and maintain a visible security presence.
Highlighting the significance of technology in election security, Rao directed officials to utilize drones for aerial monitoring and ensure that on-duty police personnel are equipped with body-worn cameras to enhance transparency in operations.
The security arrangements for Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) strong rooms were also scrutinized, with directives to implement a multi-layered security protocol and regular inspections by senior officials.
Additionally, Rao instructed that district control rooms maintain continuous communication with all polling stations, with pre-testing of communication systems to ensure a swift response in case of any emergencies.
Special attention was given to polling stations identified as sensitive, with orders for senior officers to conduct personal inspections and bolster security measures on-site.
The cyber cell was ordered to remain vigilant and take immediate action against any misinformation, rumors, or social media content that could potentially disrupt the election process.
Rao asserted, “The Gujarat Police is dedicated to creating a secure environment for free, fair, and transparent elections,” urging voters in the Umreth constituency to participate in the electoral process without fear, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere.
