Chandigarh, March 10 (NationPress) Punjabi music producer Pushpinder Dhaliwal, also referred to as Pinky Dhaliwal, was apprehended by Punjab Police on allegations of cheating, forgery, and intimidation against the acclaimed singer and actress Sunanda Sharma on Monday.
The women’s commission took suo motu cognizance of Sunanda Sharma’s complaint and mandated Punjab Police to provide an action-taken report.
Exercising its authority under Section 12 of the Punjab State Commission for Women Act, 2001, the Commission, presided over by Raj Gill, directed a Superintendent of Police-rank officer to probe the allegations and take suitable actions.
In compliance with this instruction, the police detained Dhaliwal from Mohali, as stated in an official announcement.
Sunanda Sharma has accused Dhaliwal of financially exploiting her by withholding payments, despite her music generating Rs 250 crore.
Additionally, she charged him with wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and forgery.
Responding to the commission’s intervention, the police registered a case and commenced further legal proceedings.
Gill emphasized that the Punjab state women's commission “is dedicated to ensuring justice and will persist in pursuing all essential legal actions to safeguard women’s rights and dignity.”
She encouraged all women experiencing harassment to seek assistance from the commission without trepidation.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Sunanda Sharma, 33, also accused Dhaliwal and his son, Gurkaran Singh Dhaliwal, of taking advantage of her by making false marriage promises.
She asserted that Dhaliwal and his son forged her signature on numerous documents, including contracts, and further exploited her by coercing her into signing agreements that she did not fully comprehend.
This included seizing control of her intellectual property, such as music rights, performance rights, and other creative assets.
“Through my earnings, the accused has amassed significant personal wealth solely by financially exploiting me. His sudden and unaccounted accumulation of wealth stems directly from his illicit actions, including misappropriating my earnings, unauthorized collection of performance fees, and manipulating my financial rights,” she alleged.
