New Delhi, Jan 27 (NationPress) Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday criticized the detractors of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), questioning how anyone can oppose a provision that is a requirement of the Indian Constitution, while also emphasizing the security risks associated with illegal migrants.

He stated that Article 44 of the Constitution mandates that the state will strive to ensure a Uniform Civil Code for all citizens across the nation.

"One state has implemented it successfully. I believe it will not be long before similar laws are enacted nationwide," he remarked.

While speaking at the launch of the fifth session of the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme, he expressed, "Today is a moment of celebration. We have entered the last quarter of a century since the adoption of our Constitution, with 'Dev Bhoomi' Uttarakhand making the Uniform Civil Code a reality."

Denouncing the political maneuvering surrounding the UCC, Vice-President Dhankhar asserted, "Some individuals, out of sheer ignorance, are opposing the Uniform Civil Code."

"Politics has entrenched itself so deeply in our psyche that it has become toxic. For political advantage, certain parties do not hesitate to abandon nationalism, even momentarily, without any concern," he remarked.

"How can anyone be against the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code? I urge you to study it. Examine the discussions of the Constitutional Assembly and note how frequently the Supreme Court has referenced it," he added.

The Vice-President stressed the security challenges posed by illegal migrants, stating, "Millions of such migrants inhabit our territory. Isn’t this a threat to our sovereignty? These individuals cannot truly embrace our nationalism."

He further explained how such migrants exploit our resources in health, education, and other sectors, taking jobs intended for our citizens.

I urge every member of the government to take serious note of this issue, the Vice-President concluded.

"This challenge and its resolution cannot be postponed even for a single day," he asserted.
