Discontent with Congress Leadership: Chandy Oommen Voices Concerns

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 10 (NationPress) First-time Congress legislator Chandy Oommen, the son of the late two-time Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, has expressed his discontent over the party leadership's treatment of him.
Speaking about the recent bypoll in Palakkad, Chandy Oommen commented, "While others were entrusted with responsibilities for the campaign, I was not given any work within the party."
"I held back my comments previously, and I prefer not to delve deeper now. My time in Palakkad was limited to just one day. The leadership has a responsibility to unite everyone, and it is their duty to do so," he continued.
In light of ongoing discussions regarding potential changes in party leadership, Oommen rejected the notion of replacing the current state party president, K. Sudhakaran. "Such discussions are unnecessary. We should focus on incorporating more young members into the party during its reorganization. The leadership must emphasize unity," he stated.
The Congress party in Kerala is currently buzzing with conversations about a potential generational shift, as calls for the 76-year-old state party president, K. Sudhakaran, to resign continue to grow. Sudhakaran, a representative from the CPI(M) stronghold of Kannur in the Lok Sabha, has dismissed these speculations. "This is merely the media discussing it; there is no movement in that direction," Sudhakaran remarked on Monday.
Chandy Oommen contested and won in his late father's traditional Assembly constituency, which Oommen Chandy held uninterrupted from 1970 to 2023, setting a record as the longest-serving legislator in the state.
Following Oommen Chandy's passing, the Congress leadership unanimously chose Chandy Oommen as his successor. The 37-year-old achieved a remarkable victory with a margin exceeding 37,000 votes last year.
In contrast to his father, Chandy Oommen has adopted a more reserved approach since his election, dedicating his time to his constituency, which still holds cherished memories of his father.
Even over a year after Oommen Chandy's demise, people continue to visit his tomb daily, located in a special memorial at his home parish adjacent to his residence, to pay their respects.
