DMK Delays Executive Council Meeting Amid Heavy Rain Forecast and Ongoing Parliament Session

Chennai, Dec 14 (NationPress) The ruling DMK has decided to delay its executive council meeting originally planned for December 18 because of the severe rain forecast for Tamil Nadu and the ongoing Parliament session.
DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan announced that the executive council meeting has been rescheduled, as party MPs are required to participate in crucial debates during the current Parliament session alongside the anticipated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu.
A new date for the executive council meeting will be communicated soon.
The DMK had initially scheduled this high-level meeting to prepare for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was set to lead the meeting at the party's headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.
The party has already appointed full-time workers for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
Half of these workers were selected from those who contributed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which the DMK-led INDIA Bloc achieved a remarkable victory by securing all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and one seat in Puducherry.
Each full-time worker assigned to a constituency was chosen after thorough screening and consultation with the party’s local leadership. Importantly, these appointees do not reside in the constituencies where they hold responsibilities.
M.K. Stalin has expressed optimism that the DMK will secure 200 of the 234 Assembly seats in the forthcoming elections.
The DMK currently occupies 133 seats in the Assembly and is committed to achieving this ambitious goal. A team of DMK leaders, spearheaded by youth wing leader and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, along with state ministers Thangam Thenarasu, E.V. Velu, and party organizing secretary R.S. Bharathi, has been tasked with overseeing the elections, with Udhayanidhi managing day-to-day operations.
In a recent significant meeting at Anna Arivalayam, Udhayanidhi addressed certain party leaders who fell short of expectations during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, despite being assigned specific responsibilities.
R.S. Bharathi, DMK organizing secretary and senior core committee member for selecting candidates for the 2026 Assembly elections, stated, “Our leader and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, has set a target of winning 200 assembly seats in the 2026 elections, and the party's organizational machinery is fully mobilized to accomplish this objective.”
He highlighted that senior leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, are actively managing the daily preparations for the elections, ensuring the party’s full readiness.
