Doda, Dec 17 (NationPress) As part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) initiative, the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom in Jammu & Kashmir held a one-day workshop aimed at enhancing the skills of local artisans in packaging and branding. This event focused on equipping participants with the most recent developments in product processing, making their creations both globally appealing and competitive.
Organized by the Handloom department in partnership with NIFT Srinagar, the workshop aimed to improve the market readiness of local artisans and craft entrepreneurs.
The agenda included modern packaging techniques, branding strategies, product presentation, and market positioning, all designed to help artisans add value to their offerings and boost their competitiveness in both national and international markets.
Sessions were led by experts from NIFT Srinagar, who provided technical knowledge and practical insights, aligned with contemporary design and market trends.
The workshop saw active participation from artisans, weavers, and departmental officials, followed by an interactive session addressing participants' questions.
Pardeep Shan, Assistant Director of the Handicrafts and Handloom Department, remarked about the workshop, saying, "The department’s goal is to empower artisans and weavers towards self-reliance in the handicrafts and handloom industry, enabling them to sustain their livelihoods. To support this, the department also offers an initial stipend of Rs 1,000.
This initiative has garnered significant praise as a vital step in empowering artisans while promoting the rich handicraft and handloom heritage of Jammu & Kashmir.
It's important to note that the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 30, 2022. Supported by the World Bank, this program is being implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME) over the next five years.
The initiative aims to enhance the implementation capacity and outreach of MSMEs, improving existing schemes through innovation, fostering ideation, refining practices, enhancing market access, promoting sustainable practices, and scaling up support for women-owned micro and small enterprises.
