Patna, Feb 11 (NationPress) A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has surrendered to the Bhagalpur court on Tuesday, facing grave accusations of blackmailing and sexually exploiting a woman.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Lavkush Kumar, subsequently ordered him to be placed in judicial custody.

The accused officer, DSP Somesh Kumar Mishra, was serving as the Gaya Headquarters DSP in 2020 when the allegations first surfaced.

Although he initially managed to obtain bail, his consistent failure to appear for court hearings resulted in the cancellation of his bail bond and a warrant for his arrest.

On February 6, 2025, DSP Somesh Mishra voluntarily surrendered at the Bhagalpur court. During the proceedings, he tried to explain his absence by claiming he was on duty at the Pitru Paksha fair and could not attend.

However, the court dismissed his justification and ordered his remand to judicial custody.

The case against DSP Somesh Mishra originated in 2020 when a woman lodged a complaint at the Bhagalpur Mahila Police Station.

She accused the DSP of blackmailing and sexually exploiting her on multiple occasions. Following the complaint, he was arrested in Sahebganj, Jharkhand.

Investigations confirmed the charges, leading to his suspension by the Bihar Police Headquarters.

The victim reported that while Somesh Mishra was in Delhi, he enticed her and sexually assaulted her, recording the incident on video, which he then used for blackmail.

Even after her marriage, Mishra allegedly continued to threaten her. Unable to endure the harassment, she ultimately sought police assistance and filed a formal complaint.

The next court hearing for the case is set for February 17, 2025. With his bail bond revoked, DSP Somesh Kumar Mishra remains in judicial custody as the legal process unfolds.
