New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) In reaction to a recent comment made by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal about individuals from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, students at Delhi University initiated a campaign outside the Arts Faculty, named ‘Main Hoon Purvanchali, BJP Ke Saath Hoon’ (I am from Purvanchal and I am with BJP).
As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, political factions are amplifying their outreach efforts. Numerous campaigns are being established to engage with various communities. The spotlight on voters from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar has surged following Kejriwal's remarks.
The signature drive saw enthusiastic involvement from students of the Purvanchal community, who voiced their frustration and unity.
BJP youth leader Apoorva Singh remarked, “We’ve initiated this campaign, and numerous individuals have rallied behind it. Kejriwal has repeatedly shown disrespect towards the people of Purvanchal, labeling them as fake voters. Ironically, Kejriwal himself originates from Haryana but makes unfounded claims about those who relocate to Delhi for improved opportunities.”
Narendra Sharma, a participant, emphasized the increasing importance of Purvanchal voters in the Delhi Assembly elections. He added, “AAP has insulted Purvanchalis continuously. Kejriwal even alleged that they moved to Delhi to seek free medical treatment for Rs 500. This campaign serves as a response to his derogatory comments.”
Reflecting similar thoughts, Abhishek Kumar stated, “This campaign aims to awaken the Purvanchal community. Throughout the past decade, Kejriwal has made numerous pledges yet failed to fulfill them. His inappropriate remarks about our people have crossed the line. This time, we will teach him a lesson at the ballot box.”
Previously, Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met with Election Commission officials last week. While speaking with reporters after the meeting, the AAP convenor stated, "Our primary concerns were that 5,500 votes are poised for removal in the New Delhi Assembly constituency between December 15 and January 7."
"They are transporting individuals from UP and Bihar to fabricate votes,” he continued.
Aditya Mishra, another student, shared his reason for joining the campaign: “Kejriwal’s persistent disrespect towards Purvanchalis drove us to take action. We are resolved to instigate a change in Delhi’s governance.”
The Assembly elections in Delhi are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8.
