New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Foreign Minister of the Netherlands, David van Weel, has landed in New Delhi on Thursday for an official visit intended to strengthen bilateral relations.
In a welcome message, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on X, “His visit and scheduled engagements in Delhi and Mumbai will aim to deepen and diversify the bilateral ties between India and the Netherlands.”
Throughout his stay, Van Weel is expected to engage in discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, as per a media advisory from the MEA.
Earlier this month, India and the Netherlands conducted the 13th Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, exploring avenues to reinforce their partnership in critical sectors such as semiconductors, AI, science and technology, green hydrogen, shipping, and defense and security. They also highlighted priority areas in the WAH agenda: Water, Agriculture, and Health.
The two nations expressed their commitment to adding a strategic dimension to their bilateral relations across various sectors. The MEA statement noted the increasing high-level interactions, which have provided ongoing guidance and momentum to these ties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Dutch counterpart, Dick Schoof, during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg on November 23. PM Modi remarked that the partnership between the two countries is rapidly expanding in areas like energy, technology, innovation, and water resources.
In a post on X, PM Modi shared, “I met Mr. Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Government of the Netherlands, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg. Our bilateral partnership is growing quickly in sectors such as water resources, innovation, technology, and energy. We will continue to deepen our trade and investment linkages in the future.”
During their discussions, the leaders explored opportunities for enhancing mutual investments through the Strategic Partnership.
PM Schoof highlighted on X, “The Netherlands and India collaborate closely in trade, security, and innovation. We rank as the fourth largest investor in India globally. It was beneficial to meet with Narendra Modi in South Africa during the G20 summit. We deliberated on expanding mutual investments through the Strategic Partnership and my participation in the upcoming India-AI Impact Summit in New Delhi next year.
