During his introductory comments at a meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar in New Delhi, van Weel emphasized the importance of the two nations maintaining close ties and enhancing their collaborations amid the shifting geopolitical landscape. He expressed gratitude to EAM Jaishankar for the gracious reception he received in India.

"In these challenging times of evolving geopolitics, it is essential for democracies and nations committed to a rules-based international order and free trade to unite and strengthen their collaborations to endure the challenges ahead. I am pleased to note that prior to my arrival, we established a letter of intent to enhance our cooperation in security and defense, as well as in emerging technologies," he remarked.

"I had the opportunity to visit NXP, a prominent Dutch firm already well-established in India, which is keen on advancing our collaborative efforts. As technology continues to impact our lives, our approach to implementing these innovations in line with our democratic values becomes crucial. Though our countries are vastly different in size, we are remarkably aligned in our mindset and eager to enhance our relationship," the Dutch Foreign Minister added.

On Thursday, van Weel engaged with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi.

After their discussions, David van Weel shared on X, "Our security is rooted in collaboration. Today, I signed a Letter of Intent with India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, outlining our joint initiatives to deepen our defense and maritime security partnership, which includes safeguarding open and secure sea routes in the Indo-Pacific."

Additionally, he met with Congress MP and chair of India’s Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor, to explore cooperation possibilities and discuss the influence of domestic discourse on foreign policy.

"I had a productive conversation with Shashi Tharoor, where we examined how domestic discussions shape foreign policy, India’s global role, and avenues for collaboration between our nations," he noted on X.

David van Weel arrived in New Delhi on Thursday after his engagements in Mumbai. During his visit, he toured the Netherlands Consulate in Mumbai and interacted with students, entrepreneurs, and social stakeholders.

A ministerial visit is a fantastic opportunity to connect with those who contribute to our bilateral relations. This is true for the Netherlands Embassy in India and globally," the Netherlands Embassy in India announced on Thursday.

"It was an honor to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss India-Netherlands collaboration in Maharashtra, focusing on maritime innovation, the circular economy, water management, and agriculture.
