New Delhi, April 23 (NationPress) To enhance the readiness of its grassroots workers, the Election Commission of India on Wednesday launched a two-day training and capacity-building initiative for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at the India International Institute of Democracy & Election Management (IIIDEM).
This initiative is particularly important as the ‘training boost’ for electoral officers occurs ahead of the elections scheduled in Bihar later this year, along with West Bengal and Tamil Nadu next year.
This marks the third batch of training sessions focusing on BLOs from the poll-bound state of Bihar.
A total of 229 BLOs, 12 Electoral Registration Officers (ERO), and 2 District Election Officers (DEO) from the state are participating in this two-day program. Additionally, a specialized one-day training was conducted for the State Police Nodal Officer (SPNO) and police personnel from Bihar.
The training was inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar, alongside Election Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi, at IIIDEM, which included an interactive session with the attendees.
The objective of the training is to provide BLOs with a thorough understanding of their responsibilities as outlined in the statutory framework and to equip them to maintain accurate electoral rolls. They will also gain training in IT applications tailored to assist in their roles.
This is part of the first phase of ongoing physical training programs at IIIDEM, where 555 BLOs from the states of Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam, along with 279 Booth Level Agents (BLA-1s) from 10 recognized national and state political parties from Bihar, have already been trained.
These thoroughly trained BLOs will become a network of Assembly Level Master Trainers (ALMTs), strengthening the entire BLO framework across the country.
The training for SPNOs and police officers from Bihar is designed to enhance collaboration between election authorities and the police, improving electoral management, particularly concerning law and order and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
To date, over 3,000 participants from 141 nations, including major democracies like Australia, UK, USA, Brazil, Egypt, France, Indonesia, Israel, Russia, and South Africa, have benefited from the training programs based on India's renowned electoral management practices at IIIDEM.
