New Delhi, April 30 (NationPress) The Election Commission (EC) has kicked off a two-day capacity-building training program for electoral officers at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) this Wednesday.
The training program was inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and included participation from Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) from Bihar, along with EROs and BLO Supervisors from Haryana, NCT of Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
This training initiative is part of the Election Commission’s preparation for the forthcoming elections to the Legislative Assemblies. A total of 369 grassroots election officials are engaged in this mixed-batch training.
During the event, CEC Gyanesh Kumar emphasized that BLOs and EROs, together with Booth Level Agents (BLAs), are responsible for maintaining accurate and updated electoral rolls. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing their skills and infrastructure.
The attendees were introduced to the provisions for first and second appeals concerning the final electoral rolls as published by the DM/District Collector/Executive Magistrate under section 24(a) of the RP Act 1950 and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the State/UT under section 24(b).
The curriculum featured interactive sessions, role-playing scenarios for house-to-house surveys, case studies, and hands-on activities for completing Forms 6, 6A, 7, and 8. Moreover, participants will gain practical experience using the Voter Helpline App (VHA) and the BLO App.
This training is designed to bolster participants' practical knowledge, particularly in voter registration, form management, and the implementation of electoral procedures at the field level. Technical demonstrations and training on EVMs and VVPATs will also be provided.
Earlier this month, approximately 280 BLAs from Bihar representing 10 recognized political parties received training at IIDEM.
