Jammu, Jan 4 (NationPress) The Union Minister of State (MoS) for Science and Technology (Independent Charge), Jitendra Singh, announced on Sunday that initiatives are currently in progress to prevent the flow of water from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan.
During a public 'Darbar' in Kathua, MoS Singh responded to inquiries from journalists.
Regarding the dispute raised by right-wing Hindu activists concerning the enrollment of non-Hindus at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College, the Union Minister remarked that the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, must have already addressed this matter as he holds the authority to do so as the head of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine trust.
In response to a question about water management, MoS Singh stated that plans are being developed to halt the water flow from Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan.
He emphasized that the Union government aims to utilize the surplus water within India.
"We will allocate the extra water for states like Haryana, Rajasthan, or even within Jammu and Kashmir itself, but we will not permit it to flow to Pakistan. Efforts in this regard are currently ongoing," he stated.
The Union Minister also revealed that the largest Homeopathy College in India is set to be established in Kathua.
He mentioned that this upcoming institution will enhance medical education infrastructure in the area and provide new opportunities for students.
The public darbar saw participation from local residents who raised various civic and developmental concerns, while relevant officials were instructed to address these grievances.
Union Minister Singh is also the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from the Kathua-Udhampur seat.
He originates from the Jammu district and was elected from this constituency for the 18th Lok Sabha.
In the 2024 elections, he secured his third victory from the Kathua-Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency.
