Patna, March 21 (NationPress) The joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr was widely celebrated throughout India, particularly in Bihar, where large groups gathered for prayers despite light rain in some regions. In the heart of the state capital, Patna, the primary Eid prayers took place at Gandhi Maidan, attracting an estimated 20,000 attendees, including children and the elderly, who participated in the communal namaz. In an unexpected turn of events, Nishant Kumar, son of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, made a surprise appearance to extend his wishes to the worshipers.

This move ignited political conversations due to its deviation from a long-standing custom.

For the first time since taking office, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was absent from the prayers at Gandhi Maidan, having consistently attended for nearly two decades.

Nishant Kumar arrived under tight security, accompanied by Minister Ashok Choudhary and several leaders from the Janata Dal (United), drawing significant attention from attendees and political analysts alike.

This development is perceived as a potential sign of a new political chapter, especially amidst ongoing speculation regarding Nitish Kumar’s shifting political dynamics.

It is significant that as recent as 2025, Nitish Kumar attended the Eid gathering at Gandhi Maidan, warmly engaging with worshippers, thus solidifying a tradition of public outreach.

In his absence, he conveyed his greetings via a message on the social media platform X.

In his message, he stated, “On this auspicious occasion of Eid, I extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to the people of Bihar and the nation, particularly my Muslim brothers and sisters. May God bless everyone, and may peace, harmony, and prosperity reign.”

This situation has introduced a new layer to Bihar's political discourse, even as the festival itself was celebrated in an atmosphere of communal harmony.

Throughout Gandhi Maidan, posters featuring Nishant Kumar were prominently displayed, generating buzz amid intensified political speculation.

Robust security measures were implemented across the venue, regulating entry for worshippers while administrative officials remained vigilant to ensure the smooth conduct of the prayers.

In addition to Gandhi Maidan, Eid prayers were also conducted at the Jama Masjid near Patna Junction, Phulwari Sharif, and various other Eidgahs across the city.

While the celebrations were filled with devotion and communal harmony, the presence of Nishant Kumar juxtaposed with the absence of Nitish Kumar has added a political dimension to this year’s Eid observances in Bihar.
