Nitish Kumar's Last Dawat-e-Iftar: A Tradition Concludes in Bihar
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, March 18 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held what is perceived as his final Dawat-e-Iftar at his official residence in Patna on Wednesday, signaling the conclusion of a tradition he has maintained since taking office in 2005.
With the exception of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kumar has consistently organized this annual Iftar gathering, taking a hands-on approach to the arrangements.
The occasion is significant both politically and socially, as it fosters connections among leaders, community representatives, and citizens.
This year's gathering was held under stringent security measures, with access limited to invitees possessing valid passes.
Attendees were prohibited from bringing mobile phones, and media personnel were not allowed to carry cameras or electronic devices into the venue.
Many guests regarded the event as a farewell to the Chief Minister.
Posters featuring Nitish Kumar alongside his son Nishant Kumar were spotted in the vicinity, amidst speculation regarding upcoming political changes.
Among those in attendance, Tufail Qadri, State President of the Minority Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party, expressed the hope that Kumar would support Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.
“Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has significantly contributed to Bihar. As he transitions to Delhi, he should collaborate with Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to advance the nation,” Qadri stated.
Another participant remarked that while this might be Kumar’s last Iftar as Chief Minister, “his spirit will endure here,” noting that Kumar himself hinted at the Rajya Sabha as the next step in his political career.
Meanwhile, Anjum Ara, spokesperson for the Janata Dal (United), remarked that the people of Bihar would forever appreciate Kumar’s contributions.
She also suggested that Nishant Kumar is emerging as a significant leader within the party, likely to assume a more prominent role in the future.
“The manner in which the Chief Minister personally manages every detail and shows consideration for those fasting makes this event truly special. He will certainly be missed,” she noted.
Nitish Kumar, a pivotal figure in Bihar's politics since 2005, is anticipated to engage more actively in national politics following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, political insiders speculate that he may soon resign as Chief Minister, with a BJP leader potentially succeeding him.
