Four killed by train in Andhra's Eluru, suicide suspected; 4 die in Telangana road crash
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
At least four persons, including three women, were killed after being struck by a train in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru district late on Saturday night, 5 July, police confirmed. The incident occurred near Chebrol in Ungutur mandal, and authorities suspect the group may have died by suicide.
What Happened at the Tracks
According to police, a man and three women were crushed under the Cherlapalli-Shalimar special train. The bodies were recovered in a condition beyond visual identification. On receiving information, personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Tadepalligudem rushed to the site and shifted the remains to the Tadepalligudem area hospital for post-mortem examination.
Clues Left Behind
Investigators recovered key personal effects from the scene. An ATM card found on one of the women's bodies bore the name Sheikh Haseena. A second woman was carrying a bike park receipt issued at the Tadepalligudem RTC depot. Police also retrieved two damaged mobile phones and were attempting to extract data from the SIM cards to establish the identities of all four victims.
Police believe all four belonged to the same family and were reportedly aged between 30 and 35 years. A GRP official confirmed that a case has been registered and a formal investigation is under way.
Separate Road Tragedy in Telangana
In a separate incident, four persons were killed in a road accident in Nalgonda district of Telangana in the early hours of Sunday, 5 July. The crash occurred on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway near Peddakaparthi village in Chityal mandal, when a private travel bus from Odisha rear-ended a car.
The car, travelling from Chennai to Hyderabad, was carrying V.V. Prasad along with his wife, son, daughter, and a friend — all originally from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh and residing in Hyderabad. Prasad's wife, son, daughter, and friend died on the spot; Prasad himself sustained serious injuries. Rescue workers and police faced significant difficulty extracting the bodies from the mangled vehicle.
Traffic and Response
The collision triggered a traffic jam on the national highway for a period. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and police deployed a crane to remove the wreckage and restore traffic flow. The incident is under investigation.
Both tragedies underscore the recurring pattern of fatal accidents on Andhra Pradesh and Telangana's road and rail corridors, with authorities yet to announce any systemic preventive measures following either incident.
