Mumbai, Aug 20 (NationPress) In a tragic event, five individuals from one family, including two young children, tragically lost their lives due to electrocution in the Erandol taluka of Maharashtra's Jalgaon district on Wednesday, as per official reports.
The incident took place close to Khedi village when the victims accidentally came into contact with high-voltage wires that had been illegally set up in a field to deter wild animals from damaging crops.
The deceased have been named as Vikas Ramlal Pavra, his wife Suman Pavra, their two sons Pawan and Kawal, along with Pavra’s mother-in-law.
Remarkably, their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Durga, survived the incident.
According to police reports, the Pavra family originally hailed from Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh and was employed as migrant laborers in Ambe Vadgaon village of Pachora taluka.
On the fateful Wednesday morning, they were searching for work in a nearby field when they inadvertently came into contact with the live electric wires.
Initial investigations have indicated that the farm owner had unlawfully installed electric fencing to keep wild boars out of the field, which had previously resulted in the death of two wild boars from electrocution.
In the wake of the tragedy, the Erandol police have taken the farm owner into custody and are initiating a case of culpable homicide (not amounting to murder) as per relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police have carried out a panchnama and confiscated all wires and cables from the farm to be presented as evidence in court.
While police noted that the farm laborers might have been aware of the electric wires, the exact circumstances of contact remain under investigation.
This heartbreaking incident has incited outrage among local villagers, who are demanding stringent measures against those who jeopardize human safety by installing illegal electric traps in agricultural lands.
