Tragic Collision with Power Line Claims Two Lives in Madhya Pradesh
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, April 3 (NationPress) A devastating incident occurred when a tractor-trolley carrying a Banjara family tragically collided with a high-voltage power line in the Kolaras region of Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of a woman and her seven-year-old son. Two other individuals sustained critical burn injuries.
The unfortunate event took place while the family was navigating a dirt path from Deharda village to Dodyai to gather fodder.
Long iron pipes, measuring about 10 feet and attached to the trolley for transporting additional fodder, struck the sagging overhead high-tension wires.
The intense electric current immediately coursed through the vehicle, electrocuting its occupants.
Leela Bai Banjara (30) was engulfed in flames when the current ignited her saree, resulting in her immediate death. Her son, Anil, aged seven, also caught fire and, sadly, succumbed to his injuries.
The tractor operator, Vinod Banjara (27), along with Kesar Bai, was thrown off the vehicle due to the shock and both are currently receiving treatment for severe burns in a nearby hospital.
The victims hailed from a Banjara family residing in Khedli village, located in Rajasthan's Baran district.
They had established a temporary camp near the toll plaza in Kolaras as part of their annual routine of purchasing fodder from local fields for selling to support their livelihood.
Witnesses from a following tractor-trolley quickly transported the injured individuals to the hospital, but medical staff declared the child deceased upon arrival.
According to police reports, the high-tension wires at the location were sagging low and were partially obscured by nearby trees, making them difficult to see. The protruding iron pipes from the overloaded trolley directly caused the fatal incident.
SDOP Kolaras, Amarnath Verma, stated, “This is an incredibly sad and avoidable accident. The police have filed a case and initiated a thorough investigation. Initial findings indicate that the low-hanging wires and the protruding iron pipes on the trolley were responsible for this tragedy.
We are currently reviewing whether appropriate safety protocols were adhered to for the power lines. Action will be taken against any individuals found to be negligent. We urge farmers and vehicle operators to exercise extreme caution when transporting tall equipment near power lines,” he added.
