A significant gathering took place at the Collectorate auditorium in Samastipur, where numerous women affiliated with Jeevika self-help groups (SHGs) were present.
During this event, Member of Parliament Shambhavi underscored the commitment of both state and central governments to women's empowerment. She highlighted the financial backing provided by the Prime Minister, specifically designed to enhance the economic status of Jeevika Didis (beneficiaries of the SHG initiative) in Bihar. The availability of low-interest loans will empower these women to either expand or start their small businesses.
In Samastipur, eligible women will be identified, and financial support will be allocated to assist them in scaling their enterprises and achieving financial independence.
In a candid conversation with IANS, Shubham Kumari recounted her experience. Her husband is employed in a private sector job, but their financial situation has been unstable. After becoming part of the Jeevika group, she received governmental financial assistance, which allowed her to launch a small business. With the new funding, she intends to further grow her operations.
Similarly, Mamta Bharti expressed her determination to expand her business using the newly accessible funds.
Anwari Khatun, another Jeevika Didi, shared her journey of perseverance. Her husband has been ill for some time, impacting their household income. A member of the Jeevika group encouraged her to join.
After joining the group, she secured a loan. With her skills in tailoring, she utilized the funds to purchase a sewing machine, enabling her to earn a living.
Later, with a second installment of Rs 20,000, she acquired another machine. Now, she is teaching young girls in her village and aspires to establish a comprehensive sewing training center if further support is provided. “Our financial situation has greatly improved,” she said beaming with joy.
The Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation is anticipated to empower thousands of women throughout Bihar, offering not just financial support but also the confidence and resources to instigate change within their families and communities.
