New Delhi, July 28 (NationPress) Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's energy sector has experienced a significant shift — with access to clean fuel becoming a catalyst for empowerment, particularly for women, stated Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday.
Following PM Modi's vision, 10.33 crore women have gained dignity and convenience through LPG connections provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a pivotal initiative in India's clean energy advancement, the minister shared on the X social media platform.
Moreover, 1.51 crore households are now equipped with piped natural gas (PNG), and the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network encompasses 96 percent of the country's land and 99 percent of its population, thereby enhancing energy access.
Women are assuming leadership roles in the energy sector, receiving training and employment in biogas facilities, retail fuel outlets, and LPG distribution networks. An impressive 42,800 tonnes of compressed biogas (CBG) have been procured in FY 2024–2025 as part of ongoing efforts to promote green energy, as noted by the minister.
“Today, the Indian woman is not merely a recipient; she is a pivotal player in shaping the country's energy landscape,” emphasized the petroleum minister.
In addition to supplying millions with cleaner fuel, the central government's initiative for energy access has ignited social and economic empowerment, especially among women.
Previously, the minister remarked that India is making gradual yet assured progress towards oil self-sufficiency, and under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the nation is methodically securing its energy future.
The minister also mentioned that 99 percent of the “No-Go” zones have been cleared, allowing a 1 million square kilometer offshore area to be opened for oilfield exploration. Both domestic and international energy firms have shown interest in the oil and gas blocks accessible through the Open Acreage Licensing Programme (OALP). Round X is expected to set new benchmarks for investment and involvement.
