Engineering Student Arrested for Assaulting Classmate After Intoxication in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Kolkata Police apprehended a student from a prestigious engineering college in the city on Wednesday, facing allegations of assaulting his classmate in an abandoned residential flat.
According to sources within the police department, the alleged incident occurred on December 21, 2024, at a flat located in the Garfa region of South Kolkata, which belonged to another friend of the accused.
The victim and her parents filed a complaint stating that the accused lured her to the vacant flat, where she was intoxicated by having alcohol mixed with a soft drink. Once she was inebriated, the assault took place.
Sources revealed that the victim initially refrained from disclosing the incident to her parents due to her state of shock. Eventually, she recounted the entire event, leading to a formal complaint being lodged at the Garfa Police Station on Tuesday evening.
The accused was called to the police station that night and was arrested after a lengthy interrogation. He is scheduled to appear in a lower court in Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon, where the public prosecutor will request his police custody.
The friend who owns the flat has also been summoned by the Garfa police for further questioning.
Reportedly, the accused and the victim had a disagreement a few months prior, leading to a period of silence between them. However, they reconciled in December and resumed communication.
West Bengal has been in the news for unfortunate incidents related to rape and murder in recent months, with several cases involving minors.
One of the most notable cases involved the tragic assault and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which occurred in the hospital premises in August of last year.
