Mumbai, Jan 18 (NationPress) The former Minister of Maharashtra and ex-President of Mumbai BJP, Raj K. Purohit, has sadly passed away in Mumbai on Saturday after battling a prolonged illness. He was 71 years old.

Purohit took his last breath at a private hospital in the city on Saturday.

As per information from party sources, his final rites will be conducted at Muktidham, Chandanwadi, following a public homage at Rajhans Building on Marine Drive, enabling party workers, admirers, and citizens to pay their last respects.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the senior BJP leader.

On X, the Chief Minister stated, "The news of the passing of our senior BJP leader and close friend, Raj Purohitji, is deeply saddening. With his departure, the BJP and the entire party have lost a vibrant personality."

Raj K. Purohit enjoyed a long and illustrious political journey. He was elected four times as a Member of the Legislative Assembly from the Mumbadevi Assembly constituency and once from the Colaba constituency in Mumbai.

Throughout his over twenty-five years in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, he held various significant organizational and legislative positions.

Reflecting on his contributions, Chief Minister Fadnavis remarked that as an MLA and Mumbai President of the BJP, Purohit was pivotal in fortifying and expanding the party.

"As an MLA and Mumbai President of the BJP, he played a crucial role in the growth of the party in numerous capacities. His unwavering support during the organizational processes was commendable. His steadfastness and vigor were his defining traits, always exuding enthusiasm, confidence, and positivity," the Chief Minister added.

Fadnavis further mentioned that Purohit was well-respected in the business community and successfully tackled several long-standing issues under his leadership.

"He was not only popular among business circles but also worked tirelessly in addressing many issues. He dedicated himself to campaigning during the recent municipal elections," he said.

Expressing his condolences to Purohit's grieving family, the Chief Minister conveyed, "His passing has created a significant void in the BJP family. I extend my heartfelt tributes to him. We share in the sorrow of his family."
