New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Awadhesh Prasad, the Samajwadi Party MP representing Faizabad, was visibly emotional during a press conference on Sunday regarding the rape and murder of a Dalit woman. He stated he would resign if the criminals behind this atrocious act were not apprehended and held accountable.

Prasad's emotional response was triggered by the tragic demise of a 22-year-old Dalit woman, whose remains were discovered in Ayodhya, located within the Faizabad constituency.

Reports indicate that the woman’s lifeless body was found in a canal near her village, and her relatives assert that she was subjected to sexual violence prior to her murder; her eyes had also been gouged out.

During the press conference, Prasad struggled to contain his tears, expressing his sorrow over his inability to protect her.

A video capturing Prasad's emotional breakdown has circulated widely on social media, showing him in tears while his colleagues offered support.

“I will bring this issue before the Lok Sabha and address it with the Prime Minister. I will resign from Lok Sabha if we do not achieve justice. We are failing to protect our daughters. How did this happen to our daughter?” he was heard saying in the video.

The community has been left furious, with family members demanding strict measures against the offenders.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also acknowledged the incident, vowing that those responsible would face the utmost punishment.

In a harsh critique, he labeled the MP's reaction as a blatant ‘drama’ and suggested that the investigation would reveal any involvement by Samajwadi Party leaders in this grievous incident.

“What occurred with the Dalit girl in Ayodhya is appalling. However, once the investigation concludes, we will certainly uncover the role of any SP leader. Today, their MP is merely putting on a show,” CM Yogi remarked sharply.

He accused the Samajwadi Party of being a ‘safe haven’ for criminals and recalled past occurrences where similar incidents of sexual assault and murder shocked public sensibilities during their time in power.

A report concerning the missing Dalit girl was filed on Thursday, and her naked body was discovered the following day by her brother-in-law in a nearby canal. Subsequent to the complaints, authorities retrieved the body and initiated an investigation, leading to one individual being detained.

Family members assert that she was murdered after being assaulted and recounted harrowing details regarding her ‘missing’ eyes.

“Her limbs were bound, and the body showed signs of severe wounds and fractures,” a relative stated.
