New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Awadhesh Prasad, the Samajwadi Party MP representing Faizabad, was visibly emotional at a press conference on Sunday regarding the tragic rape and murder of a Dalit woman. He asserted that he would step down if the criminals behind this atrocious act were not apprehended and brought to justice.

The emotional outcry from Prasad came after the body of a 22-year-old Dalit woman was discovered in Ayodhya, within his constituency.

Reports indicate that the woman's lifeless body was found in a canal near her village. Family members reported that she had been assaulted before her death, and her eyes were reportedly gouged out.

During the press conference, Prasad could not hold back tears, expressing his anguish about being unable to protect her.

A video capturing Prasad's emotional breakdown circulated widely on social media, showcasing him in tears as colleagues offered support.

He declared, “I will bring this issue before the Prime Minister in Lok Sabha. If we do not attain justice, I will resign from Lok Sabha. We are failing in our duty to protect our daughters. How could this happen to our daughter?” he stated in the video.

This incident has sparked outrage among villagers, with family members demanding strict action against the offenders.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acknowledged the incident and vowed that those responsible would face severe consequences.

He further criticized Prasad, labeling his emotional outburst as a mere 'drama' and asserted that the investigation will reveal any potential involvement of Samajwadi Party leaders in this horrific crime.

“The incident involving the Dalit girl in Ayodhya is shocking. However, once the investigation concludes, it is likely that a connection to any SP leader will be uncovered. Today, their MP is merely performing theatrics,” CM Yogi remarked.

According to reports, the family reported the Dalit girl missing on Thursday, and her naked body was discovered the following day by her brother-in-law in a nearby canal. Police have commenced an investigation and taken one individual into custody.

The victim’s relatives have asserted that she was murdered following a brutal assault and provided harrowing details regarding her 'missing' eyes.

“Her limbs were bound, and her body displayed severe injuries and fractures,” a family member revealed.
