Key Takeaways
Visakhapatnam, Nov 5 (NationPress) The YSR Congress Party has claimed that various segments of the population, particularly farmers in Andhra Pradesh, are facing severe distress due to the coalition government's lack of responsiveness and ineffectiveness in managing disasters.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Botsa Satyanarayana, addressed the media on Wednesday, stating that the government has completely failed to provide adequate relief for farmers affected by the cyclone, criticizing the enumeration process as poorly executed.
He pointed out that the inquiries made by YSRCP President and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy are pertinent, emphasizing that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should be held accountable for the non-payment of crop insurance and input subsidies.
Satyanarayana remarked that the government has neglected the interests of farmers, and when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited to show support for them, CM Naidu and his media engaged in misleading propaganda.
On Tuesday, Jagan Mohan Reddy toured the cyclone-affected regions of Krishna district, engaging with farmers whose crops were devastated.
He called for the TDP-led coalition government to enforce crop insurance for all farmers.
Accusing the coalition government of implementing policies against farmers, he asserted that a robust crop insurance scheme would offer essential relief to farmers facing losses from natural disasters.
He highlighted that the cyclone had ravaged crops across more than 15 lakh acres in the state, leading to significant losses, particularly to paddy crops over 11 lakh acres.
The YSRCP leader alleged that the crop enumeration was mishandled to avoid providing compensation, noting that it was rushed and included numerous stipulations, such as the non-procurement of paddy for claimants of crop insurance.
Botsa Satyanarayana also criticized Chief Minister Naidu’s comments regarding the Kasibugga temple stampede, which resulted in nine fatalities on November 1.
He condemned CM Naidu's remarks as deeply regrettable, asserting that he has failed to learn from past stampede tragedies.
Pointing out that the temple is private property only reflects his lack of empathy towards human life, Satyanarayana stated, “CM Naidu’s governance and the attitude of his supporters are irresponsible.”
He questioned how the government could remain so unfeeling towards the Kasibugga incident, stating that “the government did not learn any lessons from the Tirupati and Simhachalam incidents.”
