The incident took place between 1 and 2 a.m. near Shirivellametta village in the Shirivella mandal of the district.
Officials reported that both vehicle drivers and the cleaner of the container truck were burned beyond recognition.
The private bus, which was carrying 36 passengers and traveling from Nellore to Hyderabad, experienced a tyre burst.
After the tyre burst, the driver lost control, crossed over the road divider, and collided with an oncoming container lorry.
The violent impact resulted in a massive fire, engulfing both vehicles within minutes.
Panic ensued among passengers as flames spread rapidly inside the bus. Initial reports indicated that the main door and emergency exit were stuck, trapping several passengers momentarily.
Nandyal district's Superintendent of Police, Suneel Sheoran, elaborated, "Between 1:00 a.m. and 1:40 a.m., a serious accident occurred involving a private bus traveling from Nellore to Hyderabad. The front right tyre burst, causing the bus to veer into oncoming traffic and collide with a lorry."
He confirmed that following the collision, both vehicles caught fire, but fortunately, all passengers except three managed to escape. The SP stated that all but three passengers were able to evacuate safely.
Local residents and police rushed to the scene, breaking open the bus's doors and windows to help passengers escape from the flames.
Reports indicated that four passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Government General Hospital in Nandyal for treatment.
"Sadly, three lives were lost in this tragic event. The bus driver, the lorry driver, and the lorry cleaner died. Their remains are being transferred to the hospital," stated SP Sheoran.
Authorities mentioned that traffic around the accident site was cleared, restoring normal vehicular movement. Both the damaged bus and container truck remain at the location for further investigation.
The SP added that RFSL and FSL teams from Kurnool were dispatched to the scene to determine whether the fire was a direct result of the crash or due to battery-related issues. They will confirm the exact cause of the fire.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further information is anticipated.
