Amaravati, March 26 (NationPress) In a tragic incident, a devastating accident in Andhra Pradesh's Markapuram district claimed the lives of at least 14 individuals who were tragically burnt alive, while an additional 15 others sustained injuries when a private travel bus caught fire following a collision with a tipper truck on Thursday morning, as reported by the police.
The collision occurred near Rayavaram at approximately 6:30 a.m. when the bus collided with the tipper truck close to a stone quarry. Both vehicles were entirely consumed by flames.
At the time of the accident, there were 35 passengers on the bus which was operated by Harikrishna Travels. The 15 injured passengers were promptly transported to the government hospital in Markapuram for treatment.
The death toll may rise as the medical condition of some victims remains critical.
Among the deceased and injured were women and children. Fortunately, ten passengers managed to escape the bus shortly after the fire erupted.
The bus was en route to Pamuru in Prakasam district from Hyderabad, with the victims hailing from Kanigiri and Pamuru. The tipper truck was transporting concrete from Chimakurthy to Markapuram.
Upon receiving the distress call, police and fire department personnel arrived quickly at the scene to initiate rescue and relief operations. Three fire engines were dispatched to extinguish the fire.
Markapuram MLA K. Narayana Reddy, along with senior officials, visited the site to oversee the relief efforts.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed profound shock regarding the bus tragedy. He inquired about the incident from officials and instructed district authorities to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care.
The Chief Minister also mandated a thorough investigation into the accident and requested a comprehensive report.
Transport Minister Manipalli Ramprasad Reddy conveyed his sorrow over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
Minister for Human Resources Development and Information Technology Nara Lokesh also expressed dismay over the tragic loss of life in this bus disaster, assuring the families of the victims that the government would provide all necessary support.
