Bengaluru, July 24 (NationPress) The Bengaluru Police have officially lodged an FIR concerning the disappearance of gold earrings and a chain from the body of a 13-year-old girl in the mortuary, according to an official statement released on Thursday.
The case was initiated after a complaint by Ashwini Shivakumar, mother of the late Divyanshi, who tragically lost her life during the stampede on June 4 near Chinnaswamy Stadium, which occurred in celebration of RCB’s first IPL Championship victory.
The FIR has been filed under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against an unidentified 25-year-old male from Shivajinagar.
As per the complaint, Divyanshi tragically died during the stampede incident on June 4. Upon her arrival at the mortuary at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, she was adorned with a pair of gold earrings weighing 6 grams and a gold chain weighing between 5 to 6 grams, valued at approximately Rs 1 lakh.
However, the jewelry was found to be missing during the autopsy. When the body was returned to the family, the ornaments were not included. At that moment, the mother did not immediately observe the absence of the items, as stated in the FIR.
“The gold ornaments were stolen at the mortuary. The complainant mother holds a profound emotional connection to her daughter’s earrings and chain, and she has requested the identification of the accused along with appropriate legal measures,” the FIR further states.
The Commercial Street police have opened an investigation into the matter.
In a tragic turn of events, eleven individuals lost their lives, and over 50 were injured in the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the suspension of five senior police officials, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda and DCP (Central) Ramesh Banoth, citing significant shortcomings in crowd management.
“This is one of the most unfortunate incidents I’ve witnessed in public life,” Siddaramaiah remarked during a press conference. “Our hearts are heavy, and stringent action will be taken against all those responsible.”
The BJP has described the fatalities as government-endorsed murders and has called for the immediate resignation of Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
In light of the stampede incident, the Karnataka High Court has registered a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and requested a report from the Congress-led Karnataka government.
