Major Fire Erupts at Cake Factory in Kolkata's Anandapur Area
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 10 (NationPress) - A significant fire incident occurred in the Anandapur region located on the southern outskirts of Kolkata, as reported by the police on Tuesday.
This event took place at the facility of a well-known cake manufacturing company. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
According to police sources, the cake factory operates near the EM Bypass. The blaze erupted while factory operations were underway on Monday night.
Upon discovering the fire, workers evacuated the premises in a state of panic. The locality falls under the jurisdiction of the Anandapur police station. Both the police and fire department were promptly notified, as the fire rapidly spread within the factory.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, securing the area and initiating firefighting efforts.
Three fire engines were dispatched to manage the situation, and after some time, the fire was brought under control. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit may have sparked the blaze.
Officials from the police and fire brigade are actively examining the incident, including verifying the factory's documentation.
This incident recalls the tragic fire at Pushpanjali decorator's warehouse and a nearby momo factory that occurred in January this year.
That devastating fire also took place in Anandapur, an area that houses numerous warehouses and factories, resulting in the loss of 27 lives, with another 27 individuals still unaccounted for.
Victims were unable to escape during the fire's outbreak, and their remains were later recovered from the burned warehouse. Due to the inability to identify the deceased, DNA tests were carried out.
Following these tests, the remains of 27 individuals were returned to their families. In connection with that incident, three individuals were arrested.
