Bhuj, March 12 (NationPress) An incident involving a fire erupted at a plastic scrap yard located close to Chopadva village in the Bhachau taluka of Gujarat's Kutch district on Thursday. This event triggered an extensive firefighting response and caused significant alarm among local residents, according to officials.

Thick black smoke billowed from the site as the fire escalated rapidly, fueled by the considerable amount of plastic stored in the yard.

Local officials indicated that the fire ignited unexpectedly at the plastic facility situated near the village.

As the flames swiftly consumed the plastic inventory, nearby residents hurried to notify the authorities and moved to safety as smoke spread across the vicinity.

A team from the Bhachau Fire Department arrived shortly after being alerted about the situation and commenced their efforts to control the fire.

Firefighters utilized water jets and initiated cooling measures to stop the flames from expanding further.

Two fire engines, including those from the Bhachau municipality and a private firm, participated in the firefighting efforts as crews worked diligently to contain the blaze.

Fire officials reported that the presence of plastic materials significantly accelerated the fire's spread, complicating firefighting operations.

During their intervention, firefighters discovered four gas cylinders amidst the plastic stock.

The timely removal of these cylinders from the scene prevented a potential explosion that could have resulted in casualties or additional damage.

Officials noted that the prompt action in relocating the cylinders helped avoid what could have been a catastrophic incident.

Authorities mentioned that extinguishing the fire entirely may take several hours due to the vast amount of plastic involved.

Firefighters continued their operations for several hours to bring the situation under control. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties thus far, although officials suggested that the fire may have caused considerable financial setbacks for the facility.

The specific cause of the fire remains undetermined, and an investigation will be initiated once the situation is stabilized.

This incident follows a series of fire emergencies reported in various regions of Gujarat just a day prior.

On Wednesday, a significant blaze broke out at a chemical warehouse in the Sachin GIDC industrial area of Surat, leading authorities to declare a “major call” and deploy over 20 fire tenders to manage the fire.

No injuries were reported in that incident, although dense smoke could be seen rising from the industrial section.

In another occurrence on the same day, a fire ignited in the parking area of a structure near Science City in Ahmedabad, damaging six vehicles before firefighters were able to extinguish the flames.

Authorities stated that fire teams responded promptly to all incidents, and investigations are ongoing to determine the causes.
