First Session of New Jharkhand Assembly Commences; Hemant Soren and Others Sworn In

Ranchi, Dec 9 (NationPress) The inaugural session of the newly constituted sixth Jharkhand Assembly commenced on Monday with Protem Speaker Prof Stephen Marandi starting the proceedings by conveying the Governor's message, symbolizing the establishment of the new legislative body.
During his speech, Marandi honored the martyrs of Jharkhand and expressed optimism for a united effort to realize their vision of a prosperous state. He also detailed the steps for electing the permanent Speaker of the Assembly.
Deepika Pandey Singh, who took the oath as Minister, remarked: “We enjoy tremendous support from the people. Assigned to the Rural Development portfolio, I will prioritize its enhancement. Any delays at the block-level offices will be unacceptable.”
Chief Minister Hemant Soren was the first to take the oath representing the Barhait constituency. Other ministers included Radha Krishna Kishore, Finance Minister and MLA from Chhatarpur; Deepak Birua, Transport Minister and MLA from Chaibasa; Ramdas Soren, School Education Minister, who took his oath in Santhali as MLA of Ghatsila; Sudivya Kumar Sonu, Urban Development Minister and MLA of Giridih; Irfan Ansari, Health Minister, who took oath in Bangla as MLA of Jamtara; Hafizul Hasan, Water Resources Minister and MLA of Madhupur; Shilpi Neha Tirkey, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister, who took her oath with the Constitution in her right hand, as MLA of Mandar.
Numerous MLAs embraced Jharkhand’s linguistic richness by taking their oaths in local dialects.
This assembly is distinct from its predecessors in multiple critical aspects. The House now comprises 81 members instead of 82, due to the elimination of the Anglo-Indian community nomination system. For the first time in Jharkhand’s history, the ruling coalition possesses a larger number of seats compared to earlier assemblies. A quarter of the MLAs are newcomers, and four parties -- the JD-U, LJP-R, the AJSU Party, and the JLKM -- each have a single MLA.
Jairam Mahato of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Kranti Morcha, newly elected as MLA for the first time from Dumri, entered the House barefoot and bowed his head.
In the 81-member House, the JMM holds 34 MLAs, the BJP has 21, the Congress has 16, the RJD has 4, and the CPI-ML has 2. Notably, there are no Independent MLAs in the Assembly this time.
